Nortel (NT:NYSE - commentary - research) is expected to take the alliance route with rival LG Electronics as it plans an expansion of its wireless business in the Korean market.
LG Electronics is looking to carve out its slow-growing wireless networking business and create a joint venture with a foreign competitor, most likely Nortel, according to a report on Korea's edaily news site last week.
A Nortel representative declined to comment. LG's statement in response to the report was that the company is studying its options "to reinforce the division's competitiveness," but the company added that nothing has been decided yet.
