SCHAUMBURG, Ill., September 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News) announced today that Ron Garriques has been named president of the company's Personal Communications Sector (PCS) headquartered in Libertyville, Ill. Garriques will report to Mike Zafirovski, Motorola's president and chief operating officer, and will begin his role immediately.
Ed Zander, chairman and chief executive officer, stated, "After an extensive search that included both internal and external candidates, we determined that Ron's outstanding credentials and extensive experience in sales, customer satisfaction, and product and technology knowledge make him uniquely qualified to lead PCS."

Garriques joined Motorola in 1998 and most recently served as senior vice president and general manager of Europe, Middle East & Africa Region for PCS where he drove sales, customer satisfaction and market share improvements over the last two years. Previously, as general manager, Worldwide Product Line Management, Garriques managed a unified multi-generation product line, where he drove the creation and delivery of new products and solutions. Earlier, Garriques led the integration and execution of business processes as general manager of the Program Management Organization in PCS.
Ron began his career in the Wireless Industry in 1986 where he started as an AT&T Bell Laboratories Engineer in the Microelectronics, Power Systems Division. He had roles in development, program management, field support, customer technical support and general management and worked in both the Network Systems and Consumer Device Sectors of Lucent Technologies before becoming part of Motorola as part of an acquisition in 1998.
Garriques holds a bachelor of science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, a master of science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, and an M.B.A. from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
