Motorola, Inc. Expands Relationship with SkyBitzTuesday October 5, 9:22 am ET
DULLES, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 2004--Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT - News) and SkyBitz - a satellite-based asset monitoring and information management service - have expanded their existing relationship to enable Motorola's sales force to sell SkyBitz products and services to its customers throughout North America. Under this agreement, all information services will continue to pass through the SkyBitz Network Operations Center (NOC) for complete asset monitoring.
SkyBitz's Global Locating System (GLS) technology will be added to Motorola's existing portfolio of asset tracking solutions for both business and government users. The companies are pursuing new security and global logistics markets including maritime, intermodal containers, rail and automotive fleets, while continuing to serve the trucking, agriculture and construction equipment markets.
"SkyBitz has built a high quality asset monitoring solution for the transportation industry. The addition of its GLS technology to our current product portfolio allows us to further meet the demands of our mobile customers," said Tim Callard, vice president of aftermarket products for Motorola Automotive. "We look forward to working closely with SkyBitz to deliver sophisticated solutions to growing market sets."
In December 2003 as part of their Series C round, SkyBitz secured an investment from Motorola Ventures, Motorola, Inc.'s strategic venture arm. At the same time SkyBitz and Motorola entered into an agreement to collaborate on the development of new products that build upon the GLS technology platform.
"We believe that Motorola's interest in broadening our current relationship clearly indicates that SkyBitz's GLS technology is a valued asset monitoring and information management solution," said Rick Burtner, CEO, SkyBitz. "This latest agreement with one of the communication and technology industry's leading companies plays an important role in our global vision for SkyBitz, and will allow us to scale our business more quickly."
