RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2004--Beverly Hodges, senior director of Voice Product Management for Nextel Communications Inc. (NASDAQ:NXTL - News), will be named the Product Development/Management Award winner at the ninth annual National Women of Color Technology Awards Conference on Saturday, Oct. 30 in Atlanta. This event celebrates the superior achievements of minority women.

"Beverly is truly a dedicated professional and a leader at Nextel. She not only drives for execution, but cares about and focuses on the coaching and career development of her team."
Hodges, who joined Nextel in 1999, has led the product development efforts necessary to evolve the company's innovative Push To Talk,(TM) the instant digital walkie talkie service that works from coast to coast, and the development of Nextel's key digital cellular features. Hodges continues to manage Nextel's enhanced voice products portfolio and drive Push To Talk services in the competitive wireless industry.

Prior to her work with Nextel, she held various product development and sales operations positions at telecommunications companies. Hodges received a bachelor's degree in finance from Hampton University and an MBA with a concentration in marketing from Old Dominion University, both schools in Virginia. She is also an active member of Nextel's Inclusion Advisory Council, a group dedicated to the development of a workplace environment that utilizes the full potential of all members of a diverse work force.
The National Women of Color Technology Awards Conference, presented by Career Communications Group, Inc., identifies exceptional women who are making contributions to the fields of technology, engineering, science and math. Award nominees were evaluated based on their job description, accomplishments and letters of recommendation from persons in the candidates' professional and personal lives.
