Motorola Launches Additional Hurricane Katrina Relief Initiatives

Creates $1 Million Education Fund and Company-Wide Collection Program
Total Cash Contribution of $1.5 Million


SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Sept. 6 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT - News) today launched additional initiatives to support the disaster- relief efforts in the Gulf Coast region devastated by Hurricane Katrina. These include a $1 million education fund to help rebuild schools and educate displaced children in the region and a Motorola employee program to collect donated goods at many of the company's campuses. Details of the education fund will be announced shortly.
Ed Zander, Motorola's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Motorola employees worldwide remain deeply concerned about the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina and continue to work exhaustively to respond to the communication needs of both Motorola customers and non-customers in the impacted areas. Our response to Hurricane Katrina is the single largest disaster-recovery response in Motorola's 77-year history."

To date Motorola's Mission Critical response to Hurricane Katrina has included the following:


-- Motorola emergency-response plans activated prior to Katrina's landfall
and continue to deliver replacement communications equipment to first
responders (police, fire, rescue) and cellular providers in the region
on a 24/7 basis.

-- Motorola is providing direct financial support to the American Red
Cross' Disaster Relief Fund with an immediate cash donation of $250,000
from the Motorola Foundation. The Motorola Foundation is also donating
an additional $250,000 as part of an employee matching-gift program.

-- More than 300 Motorola employees and partners are on the front lines in
the impacted areas and continue to work directly with customers 24/7 to
repair and restore communications.

-- Additionally, Motorola has shipped the following equipment to the
region:

- More than 21,000 pieces of emergency communications equipment
(portable radios, fully charged batteries, chargers, repeaters,
portable transmission sites, portable antennas) to first
responders crews in the region.

- More than 1,000 Motorola i325 IS iDEN® handsets and accessories
for two-way communication among disaster recovery crews.

- More than 300 cellular phones sent to Cingular sites in the region
to be used for relief workers and victims and in shelters.
Cingular is providing free airtime.

- Motorola has procured a number of large motor homes that are in
the areas impacted by Hurricane Katrina. Each motor home is
equipped with replacement cellular communication equipment to
allow rapid service restoration.

- Motorola has established a "tent city" mini-camp in Baton Rouge
for its emergency field teams. The tent city serves as Motorola's
operations base and is the primary staging location for housing,
potable water, food, diesel fuel, ice, etc.

- Motorola provided three "site-on-wheels" emergency communications
trailers and generators to provide first responders with
additional private network spectrum capacity (700 MHz, 900 MHz),
as well as additional high-end public safety radios designed
specifically for those networks.
