GPEC to honor Huffman, SwonsonGPEC to honor Huffman, Swonson
The Greater Phoenix Economic Council will present its 2005 awards for Outstanding Regional Contribution and Distinguished Service to Arizona State Representative Steve Huffman and USAA Senior Vice President Jack Swonson, respectively, at the organization's annual dinner Oct. 18.
Rep. Huffman is being recognized for introducing the "sales factor" legislation, which changed Arizona's corporate sales tax structure and played a critical role in the decision by Intel Corp. (NASDAQ: INTC - News) to build a second chip-making plant in Chandler.
Swonson is being recognized for his involvement and leadership since arriving in the region in 2000. In addition to heading up several key committees, he also led the search for GPEC's third chief executive -- Barry Broome -- and recently wrapped up more than 18 months as GPEC's chairman.
