WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- By making Motorola Corp. cool again with consumers, Chief Executive Ed Zander has made the phone maker hot with investors.
Putting the moxie back in Motorola
By bringing Silicon Valley zeal to a moribund Midwest tech giant, Motorola Chief Executive Ed Zander has helped spark a turnaround in the company. For that and more, he's been selected as the MarketWatch CEO of the year for 2005. See full report
Under Zander, who joined the technology giant two years ago, a resurgent Motorola has rolled out products like the ultra-sleek Razr mobile phone, the new must-have handset that sold an eye-popping 6.5 million units in the most recent quarter.
That phone and other models have helped Motorola boost sales and gain global share in the highly competitive cell-phone handset market. The firm is expected to post sales of $37 billion this year, up 59% from 2003.
