Given the amount of wireless chatting you see in public, you may already assume that cell phones have already taken over the world.
Actually, their worldwide domination is only beginning. Emerging markets in Africa, Latin America and some parts of Asia are still relatively new to cell phones -- though the devices are catching on fast.

The global market for wireless handsets will jump 23% this year to $136 billion, according to the research firm In-Stat. Customers in developing areas are driving much of that growth.

In more mature markets like Europe, Japan and the U.S., the mobile phone industry has had to change its tactics. Most prospective customers already own a cell phone. So companies have to persuade shoppers to upgrade to more sophisticated handsets.
