Lend Yourself a Hand and Get Out of Debt

Lend Yourself a Hand and Get Out of Debt

January 2005 (Newstream) --

ANCHOR LEAD: When it comes to breaking the cycle of debt, most Americans have good intentions but lack the knowledge. But there is help as we hear from T.K. Anderson. (: 60)

SCRIPT: Lifestyles, I'm T.K. Anderson. With a new year, many families are taking a hard look at their financial situation. According to a new survey, most Americans resolve to reduce their debt but lack the conviction or knowledge to do so. Ed Powell, VP and Chief Consumer Officer for LendingTree.com says when it comes to breaking the cycle of debt, most Americans have good intentions but the temptation of plastic can be very powerful.

CUT: (Powell) I think the biggest contributor to debt currently is the fact that consumers are able to use their credit cards so easily. Not only are they able to use the ones they have today but they're getting bombarded each day each week each month with promises of lower interest rates, lower introductory rates.

SCRIPT: Powell says a debt free future is possible you just need to take the right steps.

CUT: (Powell) The first step a person need to make as far as a debt free future is they need to make a plan. Make a plan to manage their debt, stick to it and be educated about any borrowing they have to do.

SCRIPT: For more information about a debt free future visit LendingTree.com. I'm T.K. Anderson.
